So yeah, I likewise have been interested for a few years in the Riddle of Steel Successors, perhaps more as a concept for a game than actually playing them. I have been toying with the adventure idea for the game for years now I really hope the game gets finished as the devs and community really deserves it and the game has a great potential.

At least at that time the fan community was very nice and passionate as well as the devs. I have very fond memories of those two games that I unfortunately had to leave for lack of time. It is also very possible that it was issue only in my mind and I did’t understand how to use all of the together. I have not followed the development for quite some time, sadly, so it is entirely possible that it is no longer an issue. Combat takes a while but is really rewarding but my concern was and still is how it handles normal to RPGs chaotic combat situations with 2 on 1 situations and combining movement, ranged combat and this super detailed and cool melee system. The combat needs some system mastery that I didn’t quite get during the time I played the beta in couple of games. It is a really nice system for Renessaince era gaming with cool combat system and spirit/passion system to fuel and encourage roleplaying.

I followed the development quite closely for some time and back then character generation had priority system like in Shadowrun but I don’t see the influence of SR in that game anywhere else except for change from d10s to d6s and I doubt that it was because of SR but entirely a game design choice. I don’t know if they have taken any ideas from other games derived from TRoS. To my knowledge the main influencer was indeed the Riddle of Steel that the developers began homebrew. I think it had yet another name before being called BoB. The current name of the project is Sword & Scoundrel and it got changed from Band of Bastards around the same time when dice got changed from d10 to d6.
